- 19:50 phatscott25: college has generally made me put speedrunning on the backburner when it's not the summer or winter break, but I've been keeping myself derusted for now

- 19:51 phatscott25: I'm a good speedrunner and a mediocre rando player, I've had my fair share of successes in some tourneys but I've never been like SUPER good at it

- 19:52 phatscott25: yeah, I was, my best categories were hundo/any%/GT classic
- 19:52 phatscott25: trying to get into some other stuff as well

- 19:53 paf: cause i figured you had good experience with like

- 19:53 phatscott25: I only banned grav 9+1 because the one I did earlier went very poorly, I otherwise wasn't really sure what to ban

- 19:55 phatscott25: I think the ones I've found the most interesting so far are metroids no mb2 and probably varia + movement? I like double suit as well but being able to go nearly anywhere at the start can be weird

- 19:56 paf: yeahhh, see. i thought that a lot of people arent comfortable with no objectives, but i kinda am. i feel a little bad banning it, but i dunno. its hard to leave it in the pool

- 19:56 phatscott25: I'm comfortable with no objectives as well, I like the idea of just needing to gear yourself up for MB2 (and finding it)
- 19:57 paf: i think varia movement is my least fun mode, but im not.. bad at it i dont think. double suit can get really funky which i like, but it can also be like.. three logic steps and youre done, which im less good at
- 19:57 phatscott25: but yeah it definitely seems like the one that can be the most random in terms of what you have to do

- 19:58 paf: ive never done a vanilla speedrun so honestly i dont care one way or the other
- 19:58 phatscott25: some people really hate speed without it but I actually don't mind it

- 19:59 paf: like going from top right to left in single chamber, through those bomb blocks
- 19:59 paf: only speed is like, just hte right amount of jump height to screw you over and make it super slow

- 20:52 paf: i feel a bit lucky in that i found morph pretty early. the world was so open, though. it easily could have taken 15+ more minutes

- 20:53 paf: i have never, ever, ever had to do bowling alley during the escape, but it was required i think this time
- 20:53 phatscott25: I actually just straight up died like 4 times in the early game and got softlocked a bunch

- 20:53 phatscott25: yeah I also got softlocked up there because I didn't realize bowling alley was the only way out :,)

- 20:54 paf: i luckily saved before going up, because i was only after info and was gonna revert almost no matter what
- 20:54 phatscott25: I killed phantoon, I went to crateria first and only had ice and 5 supers so I decided it probably wasn't worth it right then and there, I could've done it, it just would've been an awful fight
- 20:54 paf: yeah. i think that was an interesting decision
- 20:54 paf: i could see someone killing ridley there since its kinda crappy to get to him, but its also super slow. but you honestly dont get any real beam upgrades or ammo for a long time
- 20:54 phatscott25: with ice and wave though I almost went back
- 20:54 paf: yeah exactly
- 20:55 paf: i got wave but then i was like hmm.. do i really want to go back with just wave..
- 20:55 phatscott25: ice and wave is way more damage and would be a bit better
- 20:55 paf: i think there were a couple decisions to be made about when to kill him
- 20:55 phatscott25: I was looking for a couple super packs, realized it was bowling that had those items
- 20:55 phatscott25: then realized I was screwed because I hadn't killed phantoon yet when I first went
- 20:55 phatscott25: LMAO a bit trolly
- 20:55 paf: i ended up scouting B, then M, then going to N hoping for plasma or spazer or ammo, but only found spazer. the other majors in N were pretty crappily placed
