Category Rules
Timing starts when confirming the game's difficulty on the main menu (or selecting a new file, if you are not able to select a difficulty).
Beat the game: Timing stops once you have entered a cutscene, elevator, portal, or teleport that will lead to the credits or Mission Final screen without any further game input.
Beat the Game: Multiworld: Same timing rules as "Beat the game", except all worlds in the multiworld must be completed for timing to stop. Races should use the "Team race" setting, and each team should have an equal number of worlds and players. Each player is allowed to play only one world; no player can send controller inputs to more than one game world, and two or more players cannot send controller inputs to the same game world.
Miscellaneous
For team races, players on the same team are allowed to freely communicate with each other.
The only permitted emulator is Dolphin, running on version 5.0 or later. Running the ISO on console via Nintendont is allowed.
ISO inspection/ROM inspection/memory inspection/software reverse-engineering that determines item locations or elevator destinations of the race seed prior to or during the race is banned. Save states, fast forward and disabling fog are banned.
Turbo controller functions, and increasing the disk read speed are banned. However, these functions may be allowed if all racers permit it, or a category rule permits it.
Moderator Expectations
Races should not be recorded until at least 36-48 hours after the race finishes. When reasonable, let recordable tournament races be handled by a moderator who also organizes the tournament.
